If you want your youngster to have wonderful childhood memories, filled with appetizing smells and the aroma of home-cooked meals, we invite you to our daycare. Our modern, well-equipped, and clean kitchen was approved by the Illinois Department of Health as well as Cook County and other municipal authorities. Regular visits from the department, which entail detailed inspections of the procedures used to prepare and serve meals, guarantee our children and ourselves that the daycare fulfills all the requirements of healthy nutrition.
Home-style meals, just like grandma’s, are served by Barbara Szeszko, nicknamed ”Grandma Basia” by the children. We serve four meals daily: breakfast, lunch, and two warm meals during the day. This is something that distinguishes us from many other daycare facilities.
The tradition of making pierogi, frying crispy crepes, croquettes, or golden apple pancakes is disappearing in many households because of the fast-pace of life. However, this does not apply to Saint Dominick Daycare. Grandma Basia serves all of these home-tasting savory treats with joy and concern for each preschooler. Fresh pastries, lightly dusted with powdered sugar, a favorite of the children, are a frequent surprise. Another scrumptious treat is Grandma Basia’s crunchy bread. The daily menu guarantees our preschoolers products from each food group. We serve children not only meat products and eggs, but also protein-rich dairy products, such as milk, cheese, or yogurt. Every day children have an opportunity to enjoy the smell and taste of fresh fruits and vegetables. A side during dinner is always a choice between two products from this food group. Warm soups, made on a meat and vegetable broth, are another one of the children’s favorites.
The amount, quality, and variety in our daycare kitchen make children eager to sit down for meals. This particular time in our day is a chance to have conversations, to practice good manners by the table, as well as an opportunity to practice self-service. Children from the older age groups have the chance to pour their own soup, serve their main course, or to make their own sandwiches from prepared ingredients. By providing this opportunity, we teach children independence; meanwhile, through the process of sharing, we also achieve an educational goal. The younger children also have a chance for independent eating, which goes along with our mission of exploring through action, experience, and discovery. However, if there is a need for assistance, they can always count on the help of their teachers, who are always willing to lend a hand. Our meals are often accompanied by music in a peaceful non-rushed atmosphere.
The proper development of a child is also based on appropriate nutrition. Therefore, by taking your child into our care we would like to guarantee that our home-style meals provide your child with the delicious tastes, as well as relief from hunger during your absence.
